About me…

  • my new cookbook, A Year at Catbird Cottage: Recipes for a Nourished Life, is a book about connection - to the myriad ways to prepare ingredients and eat luxuriously no matter the meal, to the natural world around us, and, to the joy of eating, surrounded by people we love.

  • i look for organic partnerships and collaborations where i can share my love for great ingredients and good living. i create start-to-finish projects, from editorial to commercial work, for stills and motion.

  • i am a first-generation american and avid forest-bather.

i grew up in detroit, where community advocacy was central to my family identity. my first career was as a metalsmith, chasing and repousséeing rich textures into fine metals.

on extended travel through europe visiting touchstones in family history, i added photography to my repertoire. years later, i won a grant for abstractions of urban ruins.

i cut my cooking chops in enlisting my now-husband to help edit a film i produced. this triggered a cascade of discoveries and growth, and ultimately brought me closer to understanding great food. it is one of my passions to discover new traditional, esoteric, wild, or heirloom ingredients. i grow my own kitchen garden, forage wild foods, and seek to highlight their special qualities in delicious dishes that span the seasons.
